FABRICATION PROCESS ENGINEERING MANAGER

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Determine and review all Fabrication manufacturing processes for cost effectiveness, feasibility, and customer compliance before and after engineering releases to manufacturing.
  • Determine priorities with the WZ Staff Manager and implement cost-reduction projects; maintain detailed documentation as required.
  • Analyze and design lean manufacturing cells and lines. Help guide designs for DFM (Design for Manufacturing)
  • Direct department activities for design of new products to meet customer specifications, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test and verification procedures for manufacturing operations.  Understand welding systems and operations.
  • Assign departmental personnel to specific manufacturing areas/phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and product testing, verification and qualification.  Coach employees in career planning activities.
  • Plan and formulate engineering program and organize department staff according to project and/or manufacturing requirements.  Work closely with Design Engineering, Operations, Quality Assurance, and Maintenance personnel to prevent problems with products and tooling/fixtures.
  • Maintain integration of the Process Engineers into the EP&T Organization.  Provide engineering leadership that aligns with EP&T engineering in terms of project execution, change control, engineering discipline, and integration with appropriate disciplines for project or change execution.
  • Review and monitor all design, engineering, and proposed technological development/enhancement as related to product lines.  Manages projects chosen for manufacturing.
  • Ensure reliable product delivery meeting objectives for quality, cost and production according to schedule.
  • Develop and maintains department standard operating procedures, training, manuals, drawing standards, including the development and maintenance of Process Design Basis, Control Requirement Documentation in ENOVIA and Equipment specifications maintained in Leading to Lean database.
  • Review product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
  • Maintain positive relationship with product customers and interface during audit visits.
  • Evaluate and approves design changes, calculations, specifications, and drawing releases.
  • Communicate key metrics for safety, quality, and production to employees to properly align actions and behaviors for improvement.
  • Maintain Process Safety Information on all Safety Significant Process and ensure PHA’a are current. 
  • Participate and appoint Process Engineers to regularly participated in Process Hazard Analysis as required.

 

Priorities include:

  •  Maintain and Improve bench strength of Fabrication Process Engineering in Melting, Round and Flat Product Departments.
  •  Develop and maintain Process Design Basis and Control Requirement Documentation for existing systems and equipment for all departments and in ENOVIA database.
  •  PSM Improvement Initiatives: 
  • Update Fabrication Process Safety Information documentation (PSI) (P&IDs, PDBs, CRDs, Pressure Relief Valves and PM’s, Critical Equipment/controls, etc.) and ensure all such information is maintained in Enovia and Leading to Lean (L2L) database. 
  • Support Department Shutdowns and Startups and help to fill gaps in missing technical information.
  •  Review and update procedures that would help improve and maintain more stable operations
  • Modify and update systems to improve overall performance and return the system to its original design basis as needed
  • Engineering projects and assignments
  • Cost Improvement Projects – following project management processes and change control
  • Cost of Poor-Quality Monthly  reporting and improvement projects – Monthly Data input to Accounting for Quarterly Continuous Improvement Meeting
  • Conduct Monthly Fabrication Process/Quality Meeting
  • Support Kaizen and improvement projects for Fabrication departments.
  • Maintain qualification/verification standards and direct efforts to support Supply Chain investigating alternative and new sources for Fabrication raw materials, equipment and instrument parts.

 

Experience Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Metallurgical, Material Science and Nuclear may be acceptable) with experience of ten or more years of professional experience in Industrial Manufacturing.  Metallurgy experience  and management of technical team of engineers is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment, techniques, processes and procedures.  Experience in project estimating and project management.  Computer literate; proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, knowledge of Wonderware Historian database.
  • Experience in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and other Hazard Identification and Risk Analysis tools would be a plus.

  • As manager will be required to guide Fabrication Process Engineers in applying his/her broad knowledge of engineering skills, principles, practices, and procedures to complete difficult and complex assignments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and demonstrated experience.
  • Must have strong time management skills to handle multiple ongoing projects in addition to day-to-day process problems.
  • Solid computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, MiniTab, and the ability to quickly learn software such as Leading to Lean, etc.  

 

Problem Solving

  • Act as a liaison with internal and external customers.
  • Act as the liaison between Maintenance and Manufacturing to provide technical support.
  •        Use vision and drive to establish the processes and controls necessary to meet the expected growth of the facility.
  •        Assess and develop employee skills to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively
  •        Resolve chemical, metallurgical, and mechanical problems for and with employees, management, customer(s) and /or vendor(s).
  •        Determine appropriate machine and process down-time operations in conjunction with production requirements.
  •        Able to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Knowledge of interpreting a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  •        Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business and financial data, write technical procedures and possesses grammar skills to write reports and business correspondence.
  •       Use six sigma, learn or other tools to improve the implementation of manufacturing processes.
  •       Develop employees for future career opportunities.
  •       Determine ways to recognize and reward employee behavior.
