Mechanical Engineering Intern

Westinghouse Electric Co. LLC, Western Zirconium Plant, is accepting resumes for Mechanical Engineering Interns.  The Western Zirconium Plant manufactures nuclear grade zirconium for the commercial nuclear fuel industry.

The position will allow engineering student to perform a variety of technical and engineering assignments for Engineering and Technology Group including design, drafting, and implementation of mechanical engineered projects (Capital, Expense, Development) under the guidance of engineers. The intern’s primary responsibility will be to assist the project manager with engineering projects.  All projects will be associated with machines and processes used at the Western Zirconium facility in Ogden Utah.

  • Intern will be assigned projects where they will be responsible for the preparation of project scope definitions, project work breakdown schedules, project design, project schedule, and engineering documentation.
  • Understanding engineering drawings so that intern can associate the drawing to the physical equipment and determine drawing correctness.

The position requirements include:

  • Interactions skills – Ability to understand and communicate using drafting and engineering terminology.  A basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical terminology.   
  • Drafting - A basic knowledge in the field of drafting. At a minimum, a basic knowledge and experience using AutoCAD. Solid modeling using SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor preferred.
  • Education – A minimum of (2) years college/university courses including freshman drafting courses is mandatory.  A fundamental ability to use knowledge of Microsoft office software.
  • Skill Required –
    • Microsoft office products such as Excel, Word…etc.
    • Self motivated/self starter
    • Desire to learn and excel in a team environment
    • EIT certificate (FE exam) is a Plus
  • Work Schedule and Pay – 40 hours a week, 4 - 10 hour work days (Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday) throughout the summer semester break. Interns are paid a monthly salary, with the option to elect a mid-month advance.  Salary is based on the completed year in school.  Interns are not eligible for overtime as they are salaried, exempt employees.  Interns can work a shortened work week schedule of 20 hours per week while attending school with flexible hours to meet class schedule.
