Mechanical Engineering Intern

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, at our Peterborough, Ontario facility, you will work on a variety of technical and engineering assignments including design, drafting, and implementation of electrical, instrumentation and controls projects (Capital, Expense, Development) under the guidance of engineers. Starting May 2026 for a duration of 12 to 16 months.

Main Responsibilities:

• Develop 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings and bills of materials for complex electro-mechanical first of a kind tooling
• Assembly and testing of custom equipment through the design evolution from prototype to finished product
• Assist with the development of test procedures for systems to ensure compliance with design specifications
• Assist with the operation of the final tooling system in the customer facilities
• Performing both classical hand calculations and analysis (including FEA) to qualify systems and/or components against applicable codes & standards
• Preparing clear and concise design reports and technical specifications.
• Driving innovation and new methods in the development of new technologies and nuclear systems
• Collaborating globally within the Westinghouse Engineering framework alongside SMEs and nuclear specialists 
• Supporting resolution of issues throughout design, manufacture and testing of systems and/or components  

Qualifications:

• Enrolled in 2nd year or recent graduate of an Mechanical engineering program at a university with a minimum GPA of 75%
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent problem solving and time management skills
• Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude and knowledge
• Knowledge of electronic equipment and computer hardware and software
• Self-motivated and highly organized
• Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical or similar software
• A background with practical skills developed through jobs, school teams or personal interest are highly valued.
