POSITION TITLE: Environment, Health, and Safety Technician I
Science and Technology Department
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Provide support to Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) supervision to ensure compliance with regulatory, site specific and customer requirements.
WORKING PROCEDURE AND/OR RESPONSIBILITY ASSIGNED:
- Perform routine EHS inspections following standard procedures, implement job control as directed by higher coded EHS technicians or supervision, and implement appropriate ALARA requirements and reinforce safe work practices, be familiar with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) sufficient to perform assigned tasks in a safe manner.
- Collect hazardous and radioactive waste, assist higher coded EHS technicians shipping hazardous materials according to all applicable regulations, assist higher coded EHS individuals with packaging and shipment of radioactive waste, collect environmental samples and prepare for shipment to vendors, ship bioassay samples according to all procedures and regulations.
- Use selected EHS instrumentation to perform assigned tasks, collect, inventory and restock disposable Personal Protective Equipment (PPS).
- Perform routine EHS functions as directed by EHS Supervision including fire extinguisher and eye wash station inspections.
- Assist equal and higher coded EHS technicians with non-routine assignments.
- Provide support to higher skill level technicians in event response activities.
- Must be medically approved to wear respiratory protective equipment and able to perform assigned work activities while wearing same.

DIRECTION OF OTHERS:
Recommends and advises operations personnel in proper procedures and techniques for conducting jobs in a safe manner. Provide technical guidance and explain work assignments to other personnel of equal or lower classification.
DIRECTION RECEIVED:
Works under general directions, receiving minimum supervision. Receives specific work assignments. Assignments require occasional interpretation of general directions.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Associate’s degree in engineering or related technical discipline or recognized equivalent.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Two years of related experience. Additional experience may be substituted for formal education.
