We are hiring a Program Manager to join our Operating Plant Services team in Canada. This individual will be accountable for delivery of projects supporting our customers within the CANDU Nuclear industry. Typical projects within the program may range from $100k to $20M in size and include scopes of engineering and/or manufacturing. The successful individual must be able to lead and mentor a small team of Project Managers/Coordinators and manage multiple technical projects with multi-disciplinary project teams to drive project execution while ensuring adherence to safety, quality, cost and schedule, and development & maintenance of strong customer relationships.
This is a mobile (on site 2-3 days per week). position that can be based out of any of our four locations in Ontario – Burlington, Kitchener, Port Elgin, or Peterborough.
Your Day to Day:
- Ownership and accountability of project lifecycles within the assigned program, from proposal through to implementation including initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling and close-out.
- Provide oversight, mentorship and training to Project Managers within the assigned program of projects, through a matrixed reporting relationship
- Interface with customer Program and Section Managers for escalation and resolution of specific project and/or program level issues
- Will have some projects assigned directly in addition to the oversight of the overall program
- Determine methods and resources needed to achieve project goals and develop a detailed project execution plan covering all phases of the project. Balance and manage competing project constraints including scope, quality, schedule, budget, resources and risks.
- Develop and maintain a project schedule (with support from a project scheduler) and resourcing needs identification, to be used to drive on-time performance of the work. Develop and implement recovery plans as required to bring delayed activities & deliverables back on track
- Align stakeholder expectations to achieve overall acceptance of project objectives. Effectively communicate project and program-level interdependencies and requirements.
- Maintain full accountability for the project financial performance. Monitor project spends ad KPIs and regularly update project forecast, addressing deviations immediately as they are identified.
- Control the project scope by understanding the contract and SOW and monitoring project activities and customer requests against this. Document and communicate identified changes immediately with both customers and internal management.
- Ensure regular clear, consistent and accurate communication with the customer and project stakeholders. Hold regular project meetings and provide regular project status reports. Be responsive with customer requests and ensure project issues and challenges are escalated immediately.
- Identify and manage project risks through development and maintenance of a project risk register. Proactively implement mitigation plans to identified risks and manage allocated risk budgets appropriately.
- Maintain all documentation throughout the life of the project to ensure compliance to the contract and quality procedures
- Seek opportunities to implement continuous improvements to enhance project performance. Document and share lessons learned and apply improvements to project planning and execution.
- Travel to customer and other Westinghouse facility locations as required
Who You Are:
- Bachelors degree required.
- 10+ years of experience in Project Management, with a strong preference for Canadian Nuclear Industry experience.
- Experience in Engineering project management
- Experience in leadership and management of cross-functional project teams
- Experience in development and mentorship of project management teams
- Experience managing technical projects or programs of a combined value of $20M+
- Experience in N299/N285/N286 quality program execution within projects
- Experience in Bruce Power and/or OPG Engineering Change Control (ECC) processes
- Ability to develop strong stakeholder relationships (external and internal)
- Working knowledge of Primavera or MS Project is an asset
- Aptitude towards a fast-paced work environment and decision making
- Strong sense of accountability and drive to obtain results
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication, clear and concise
