Technical Project Manager - Port Elgin, Canada ( Act as a member of a multi-disciplinary team (architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical) providing oversight and coordination of projects)


This intermediate project manager position provides direct support and project management in the design, development and implementation of projects for the company. The successful individual must be able to manage multiple design and construction projects, lead multi-disciplinary teams and continuously monitor progress with milestones and autonomy. This position works closely with project technical leads in recommending project goals and analyzing the status of projects. The project manager is responsible for ensuring the timely creation and maintenance of master project schedules and reports for multiple projects, where required. 
Responsible for all project management processes on medium complexity projects or on a portion of highly complex projects. Manages projects with multiple disciplines and integrated team structures of 4-6 members.
Your day to day: 
•    Ownership of project lifecycles from proposal through to implementation including initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling and close-out.
•    Determines methods and resources needed to achieve project goals and develops a detailed work (project) plan (when required) which includes definition scope, staffing and financial resource allocation, priorities and target dates.
•    Monitors progress and ensures timelines are met at major milestones.
•    Balance and manage competing project constraints including scope, quality, schedule, budget, resources and risks.
•    Ownership and continuous development of project management procedures and practices including review of “lessons learned” and implementation of required corrective actions.
•    Depending on project size and scope, may appoint ad hoc or permanent team members and directs, coordinates and leads team activities.
•    Serve as single representative to customer, consultants, constructor and Westinghouse business areas in support of project.
•    Interpret and transmit contract requirements, and subsequent changes, to functional groups.
•    Integrate project’s objectives and actions through participation with other project groups in matters of common concern.
•    Properly close project by archiving work in financial, scheduling, document management, and resource management systems/tools.
•    Perform final project quality assessment and report out. Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement, lessons, and risk avoidance for future work.
•    Seek opportunities and implement continuous improvements to enhance project performance.
•    Manage multiple building design and construction projects, from programming and design through construction and close-out
•    Act as a member of a multi-disciplinary team (architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical) providing oversight and coordination of projects.
•    Provides technical oversight and general review to ensure compliance with project requirements
•    Knowledge of applicable Building Codes, Municipal by-laws and other relevant Standards, Acts and Regulations
•    Exhibits experience in contract management, tender package preparation, specification preparation, technical report writing
•    Independently perform site investigations and field measurements for the purposes of design activities.
•    Familiar with AutoCAD is an asset.

Who you are:  
•    Education Minimum Requirement:    College Diploma or University Degree in related discipline.
•    PMI CAPM or PMP Certification or other equivalent project management certification completed or in progress.
•    Member in good standing with the Project Management Institute (PMI) is an asset.
•    Years of Experience (if applicable):  5 years’ experience in design engineering environment. 
•    Professional Certifications: PMP certificate or equivalent is preferred.
•    Skills and Competencies: Ability to provide strategic vision as well as demonstrate success in helping drive the business. 
•    Experience with MS Project or Primavera is an asset.
•    An understanding of project management fundamentals.
