Bid Writer

The Bid Writer is responsible for collecting information from technical leads involved in producing solutions for offers/bids and producing high quality prose/offer letters that is easy to read and comprehensive. For competitive bids and tenders it is expected that the bid writer will do this in a manner that achieves the highest possible score. The Bid Writer will also be involved in producing lower value offers under the support/guidance of a bid manager to develop their skills and capability in that area.

You will be involved in bids/offers for decommissioning and decontamination opportunities in the nuclear decommissioning sector in the UK and overseas. This role reports to the Senior Bid Manager, Environmental Services UK and is based either at Springfields, Preston, or at Westlakes Science Park, Whitehaven but follows a hybrid working pattern that can be agreed with your line manager.

Occasional travel may be required.

Key Responsibilities

• • Working closely with the bid manager for an offer/bid to ensure that offer letters/prose in responses to bid questions are produced to a high standard and on time.
  • Producing charts/diagrams/tables to illustrate the offer/bid response as required.
  • Ensuring the documents being produced as part of the Westinghouse Environmental Services UK submission are correctly formatted, in accordance with Westinghouse branding, and are free from grammatical or spelling errors.
  • Ensuring the correct documents are submitted/uploaded as part of a bid.
  • Working closely with technical leads to ensure that their knowledge and thinking is captured and reflected in an easy to read and professional manner in the bid/offer.
  • Reading the Invitation to Tender pack and ensuring that Westinghouse Environmental Services UK complies with all word limits, format constraints and submits all the required documents.
  • Updating offers/bids in response to feedback/comments.

Skills/Experience/ Qualifications:

Essential

• Offer/bid writing experience particularly for competitive tenders.
• Experience of working within the Nuclear Industry.
• Self-motivated.
• Organised, attention to detail and diligent.
• Calm under pressure.
• Able to communicate in writing complex technical solutions and concepts in a clear and logical manner.
• Able to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
• Good numeracy and literacy skills.
• Good ability to write technical prose in bid/offer responses.
• Enthusiastic approach to work and a positive team player.
• A strong customer focus and a desire for win:win solutions.
• Committed to continuous improvement.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Desirable but not essential:

• Nuclear decommissioning and decontamination sector experience.
• Scientific or Engineering background to be able to understand and write clearly about technical scope.
