Chemical & Metallurgical Service Department Support Team Member
The Chemical and Metallurgical Services Department (C&MSD) laboratories at Springfields provide technical/analytical support to all areas of the Springfields site. Analysis is performed in the laboratories on Nuclear Fuel, Intermediate Fuel products, Residue Recovery and Environmental Compliance samples to ISO17025 and NQA 1 Quality Assurance requirements which provides assurance for the wide range of national and international customers.
An opportunity has arisen to join the sampling and support team within C&MSD, the role looks to provide support to the analytical technicians and maintain standards in the laboratories through a standard 5-day week working pattern. Examples of the tasks required are dispensing liquid nitrogen, general waste collection and processing, general cleaning of laboratories areas, assistance with waste monitoring and processing, sample residue processing, sample disposal, bulk chemical preparation, stores ordering and distribution. This is a wide-ranging job and requires a highly motivated individual to keep up with the demands of the laboratories

• Previous experience working in a laboratory environment
• Understanding of criticality and the modes of protection
• Understanding of radiation
• General appreciation of chemical handling
• Ability to prepare chemical recipes
• Able to use SAP software
• Understanding of COSHH
The successful candidate will be given full training in all aspects of the role
• 3 GCSE's (grade C or above) or equivalent in Maths and English or 2 GCSE's as above with work related experience.
• OR 3 GCSE's (no grade specified) or equivalent in Maths and English or 2 GCSE's as above with work related experience for the following post: Laboratory attendant
• For internal candidates, suitable relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications, where appropriate.
