Your Day-to-Day:

 

􀂃 Gather supporting documents and information for assigned tasks

􀂃 Read and understanding the electrical layout portions of the Engineering, Procurement and Construction

(EPC) contract

􀂃 Review and understanding drawings (including vendor drawings), defining steel, piping, concrete, and

equipment arrangements

􀂃 Review design deliverables with engineering and physical layout lead

􀂃 Generate design deliverables using policies, procedures, codes, and standards

􀂃 Execute the design using approved software and tools

􀂃 Obtain review and approval for design deliverables

Physical Designer 1 Sub-Disciplines

In addition to the above basic job requirements, Physical Designers can also focus on (depending on project assignment) one or more of the following sub-disciplines. The primary Physical Designer 1 job activities associated with each of these sub-disciplines are outlined below.

 

Raceway Design

􀂃 Perform conduit sizing calculations per corporate standards, as directed by others

􀂃 Develop detailed ductbank/conduit arrangements with explicit direction from engineering team

􀂃 Select appropriate typical support details

􀂃 Identify raceway tagging

􀂃 Load raceway info into database, as directed by others

􀂃 Generate and annotate two-dimensional (2D) drawings, including bill of materials, for raceway design

Equipment Arrangement

For a limited subset of electrical equipment types:

􀂃 Review codes, standards, design criteria and vendor requirements to define equipment clearance

requirements, as directed by a more senior designer

􀂃 Review and understanding equipment arrangement drawings

􀂃 Locate equipment per equipment space allocation standards, as directed by others

􀂃 Define mounting requirements and details, with interdisciplinary participation, as directed by others

􀂃 Identify flooring, roofing, and wall penetrations, as directed by others

􀂃 Generate and annotate 2D drawings, as directed by others

􀂃 Identify equipment tagging

Grounding & Lightening Protection Design

􀂃 Locate grounding conductors and rods using design criteria, as directed by others

􀂃 Locate above grade equipment and raceway grounding system, as directed by others

􀂃 Develop lightning protection drawings at the direction of engineering

􀂃 Generate bill of materials, as directed by others

Cable Routing

􀂃 Identify equipment locations, as directed by others

􀂃 Evaluate and selecting raceway routes, as directed by others

Lighting Design

􀂃 Locate fixtures and receptacles as directed by others

􀂃 Define circuit assignments

􀂃 Generate and annotating 2D drawings for lighting design, including bill of materials, as directed by others

Plant Services Design

􀂃 Develop riser diagrams, location drawings (for page party system, fire detection, telephone/LAN, heat tracing,

security), and bill of materials, as directed by others

3D Modeling Related Activities
