In the framework of implementing Westinghouse's research and development, innovation and digital transformation, the Technology Platform Manager is responsible for bringing Westinghouse and its customers to digitally enable processes and capabilities in the energy industry. This leader is focused on applying digital technologies for process optimization and works closely with the business units, GOS, other D&I groups and corporate to bring concepts from ideation through proof of concepts, minimum viable products and into a technology brick or a commercially viable solution. This function is global WEC. 

 

The Technology Platform Manager engages with the D&I organization to achieve success in its vision (re-become the undisputed market technology leader preferred by customers in a global competition through digital enabled offering), mission (oversee R&D innovation process; maintain technical expertise and key skills; coordinate & lead technology watch efforts; encourage Innovation throughout the organization) and ambitions (accelerate go-to-market time of innovative solutions and make Westinghouse’s products and services more competitive to seize greater market share).

 

The Technology Platform Manager is responsible for leading the early stages of the innovation process for digital solutions and support the late phases to have a successful product development and launch. This responsibility will be achieved within a given theme through, but not limited to, the following:

 

  • Analyzing innovation ideas submitted through the Innovation Idea Intake Form and preparing opportunity papers
  • Leading the technology and business case maturation
  • Developing conceptual design, launching proof of concepts (PoC) and defining Minimum Viable Products (MVP)
  • Identifying the technology bricks
  • Advice and support prioritization and decision making at all levels of the organization, including build-buy-partner decisions

This leader distills customer needs working together with the business unit or the corporate users and direct the right technology approaches teaming the digital execution team. This leader guides and advises on the digital transformation and optimization of internal and client’s processes supporting internal and external adoption of WEC and third-party digital solutions.

The Technology Platform Manager identifies disruptive digital technology bricks based on market trends, Voice of Customer (VoC) and Westinghouse business plans. Also participates in the Strategy and Technology Roadmap definition as well as their execution and support the technology watches related with digital technologies.

 

This leader manages multiple technology development initiatives and complex projects simultaneously driving for results ensuring execution rigor across all projects. Coordination with other Technology Platform Managers and other leaders in the D&I organization is required for delivering the D&I objectives.

The Technology Platform Manager might have a team reporting to them and will manage all aspects of personnel development and management, typically overseeing experienced and geographically dispersed professionals who exercise latitude and independence in their assignments

 

This leader is a member of the Digital Innovation staff supporting the Digital Innovation Director with the overall digital strategy; partner with WEC BUs to build and support business strategy growth targets and product development; partner with internal WEC organizations to identify solution improvements, product development roadmap and identify opportunities to integrate product capabilities and work with the different BUs to get alignment while ensuring data and digital technologies are incorporated in product decisions to support their business or new digital solutions to WEC internal efficiency.

Through technical knowledge and expertise and in alignment with other WEC entities, this role will drive the organization to publish papers in technical journals, engage in joint technology development programs with national labs and universities, and leverage tech companies to accelerate digital, modeling and simulation development that will drive value for Westinghouse’s business strategy.

Ensures a culture of entrepreneurship and pioneer within D&I and WEC globally.

 

Skills and Competencies: 

 

-Demonstrated ability to lead multiple technology development initiatives and complex projects to completion simultaneously driving for results.

-Ability to distill customer needs and direct the right technology approaches.

-Analytic, strategy and business skills, including consideration of financial impact when making decisions. Comfort level with financial reporting. Experience with use case and business case development, technology roadmaps, product/market fit and pitch decks.

-Experience with technical, strategic, and/or commercial partnering development with third parties of various forms.

-Ability to lead, mentor and develop a globally dispersed workforce and guide cross-functional teams.

-Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey complex information to different stakeholders effectively. Ability to work across organizational boundaries, comfort operating with assumed authority as opposed to organizational authority. Persuasive ability to get stakeholders to cooperate or take actions.

-Knowledge and Experience in the following is desired:

  • Nuclear technology and process (operation, monitoring, maintenance, inspection)
  • Nuclear plants work management processes and regulations
  • Technical knowledge of artificial intelligence, data science, data management, platform architecture, cloud computing, IoT, augmented reality/virtual reality and other modern technologies that can be applied to digital solutions
  • Change management and business process improvement methodologies such as Six-sigma

-Innovator/growth/inquisitive/collaborative mindset. Passion for pushing nuclear energy forward
