About the role:

The OPX Business Unit is Westinghouse's global business for operating plants, delivering products and services to nuclear power plant customers worldwide. These include fuel technologies, outage and maintenance services, engineered solutions, instrumentation and control systems, parts, and capital project execution.

Our Legal organization plays a critical role in advancing this mission.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Counsel to join our team and provide main legal support to our partners within the OPX Business Unit.

As Senior Counsel, OPX Legal, you will serve as a legal advisor to the business, providing strategic, practical, and risk-informed guidance across the full project lifecycle, from the offer stage and contract negotiation through project execution and commercial dispute resolution.

You will work with project teams, commercial operations, corporate center functions, Global Supply Chain Services, and other organizations across Westinghouse, and with customers, vendors, and partners.

You will report to the Assistant General Counsel, OPX Legal, based in Madrid

This role will be located at Madrid, or at any Westinghouse office across Europe.

Hybrid work schedule.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements (including FIDIC and NEC4 contracts) with domestic and international customers, suppliers, and partners.
  • Provide timely, practical, and risk-informed legal advice to internal clients, supporting commercial objectives and delivering solution-oriented guidance.
  • Identify legal risk to the enterprise and devising ways to mitigate or eliminate such risk while achieving business objectives.
  • Play a key role in the company´s internal governance processes, including leading and supporting the legal review and approval of commercial business transactions in accordance with internal policies.
  • Remain current on legal developments within scope of responsibilities, provide updates to internal clients, and deliver training on legal issues as necessary.
  • Supervise and manage external counsel as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional Legal teams (including Contracts, IP, Compliance, etc.) to support an aligned and effective approach to managing legal risk.
  • Operate effectively in a highly international and dynamic business environment, demonstrating agility, adaptability, and responsiveness to evolving business need

Qualifications:

  • Qualified attorney with 5+ years of experience with a focus on commercial and business law, gained in-house, in a law firm, or both. In-house experience with a major international company is preferred.
  • Admission to practice law in a European country is required; admission in a second European jurisdiction is a plus.
  • Experience in the nuclear sector is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience providing legal advice across a broad range of commercial matters, including contract negotiation, joint ventures, and claims.
  • Proven ability to deliver practical, risk-informed legal advice and to build strong, strategic relationships across the organization.
  • Experience drafting and reviewing high-quality legal documentation, including commercial agreements, training materials, and presentations for senior management.
  • Highly developed analytical, communication, and negotiation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in English (written and spoken) is required.
  • In addition to the candidate's native language, proficiency in at least one other foreign language is an asset.
