About the role:

As a Waste Characterization and Disposal Engineer, you will provide engineering services. These services include treatment and final storage of radioactive waste, and nuclear safety and licensing studies. Additionally, you will involve yourself in characterization and acceptance of nuclear waste from operating plants and end of life decommissioning/dismantling projects. This is a full-time job.

 

You will report to the Waste Characterization and Disposal Manager and be located at our HQ in Madrid. Hybrid position.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Help draft and update safety reports, technical memoranda, and documentation for the CSN (Nuclear Safety Council).

  • Perform basic radiological calculations: dose estimates to the public and workers, shielding assessments, dose rate evaluations, ventilation families calculation environmental contamination assessments and determination of radiation monitors setpoints.

  • Design and monitoring of the radiological surveillance system.

  • Help evaluate the safety impact of design modifications.

  • Review applicable regulations, CSN guides, and licensing requirements.

  • Prepare supporting documentation, presentations, and technical summaries.

  • Support technical visits and follow-up activities at CA El Cabril.

  • Participation in international teams.

 

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Nuclear Sciences) or Engineering (Industrial, Energy, Nuclear, Chemical, or Civil).

  • At least 3 years of experience in nuclear safety, radiological protection or radiological analysis.

  • Knowledge of radiological protection principles, radiological analysis, and CSN regulatory framework.

  • Knowledge of AMBER, ORIGEN2PC, and shielding calculation codes ).

  • Experience in safety analysis under normal operating and accidental conditions, including shielding calculations, environmental contamination evaluation, ventilation families analysis, and determination of radiation monitors setpoints.

  • Experience in nuclear or radioactive facilities.

  • Familiarity with the regulations for nuclear and radioactive facilities and the health protection regulation.

  • Fluency in Spanish: must speak and write Spanish perfectly.

  • Fluent in English with reporting skills.

  • Technical interest, predisposition for understanding of project priorities and teamwork abilities.

  • Willingness to travel.

  • We require a Driving License.
