In your role as the Deputy Site Movement Liaison Officer (DSMLO) you will be providing direct support to the Nuclear Fuel Transport team in areas of compliance, audit, classification of materials, package advice, transport permits and licenses.

The successful applicant will report directly to the Site Movement Liaison Officer and will be expected to gain or have formal qualification as a Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor. There will be a moderate amount of travel associated with the role both domestic and international.

Duties:

  • Management and maintenance of procedures for the safe transport of dangerous goods.
  • Formal appointment as Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor.
  • Act as security manager for the transport of radioactive materials in accordance with the Nuclear Industries Security Regulations.
  • Ensure dangerous goods are packed, marked, labelled and consigned in accordance with appropriate regulations.
  • Liaise with relevant police forces, Port Authorities and Regulators (ONR Transport and ONR Civil Nuclear Security) on the movement of radioactive materials.
  • Carry out audits to check compliance with transport regulations
  • Ensure all relevant company safety rules and procedures are applied

Essential Skills/Qualifications:

  • Science based qualification to HNC or degree level or equivalent.
  • Chartered status or working towards Chartership in relevant profession.
  • High level of personal motivation and self confidence.
  • An active team player who can also work independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders including regulators.
  • Ability to undertake decision making roles in radioactive material consignment and transport as required by the United Nations Model Regulations and the IAEA Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material
  • Complies with company policy standards and procedures e.g. safety, quality, risk, security etc., applicable to the role

Desirable Skills/Qualifications:

  • Ability to assess statutory regulation, international standards and incorporate into local management systems.
  • Experience in the transport of radioactive materials, radioactive wastes and other dangerous goods preferred.
  • Holds or held a position as Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor
  • Act as Westinghouse representative at domestic and international forums including the Radioactive Materials Transport Users Committee and the World Nuclear Transport Institute.
  • Be confident and able to speak at such forums and train others in the requirements of radioactive transports.
  • Science based qualification to HNC or degree level or equivalent.
  • Chartered status or working towards Chartership in relevant profession
