Role Overview:

As an intern at Westinghouse Springfields, you will support the design and development of electrical and instrumentation systems used in nuclear fuel manufacturing and site infrastructure. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers on real-world projects, contributing to safety-critical systems and gaining exposure to the nuclear sector.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and drafting of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and instrumentation layouts.
  • Support the specification and selection of instrumentation and control components.
  • Participate in testing, calibration, and commissioning of electrical and control systems.
  • Contribute to safety assessments and compliance with UK nuclear and electrical standards.
  • Maintain and update technical documentation, drawings, and asset registers.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, process, and safety engineers.

 

Requirements:

  • BEng or MEng  graduate in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Control Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong academic foundation in circuit theory, control systems, and instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, EPLAN, or similar CAD tools.
  • Understanding of UK regulations such as BS7671IEC 61508, and ONR safety standards is beneficial but not essential.
  • Right to work in the UK for the duration of the internship.

  • Experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, or industrial automation is a plus.
