General Job Function:

 

The Environmental Project Engineer within EMEA Nuclear Fuel New Business is a multifaced role primarily focusing on driving Westinghouse’s environmental initiatives while encompassing the broader spectrum of project engineering responsibilities. This engineer will evaluate and manage environmental aspects of business opportunities, guiding the team in making informed decisions for bid/no bid situations. Additionally, the Engineer will coordinate and support the preparation of project deliverables, ensuring their alignment with the company’s Stage-Gate process and broader project goals.

 

While a significant portion of this role is dedicated to developing and delivering environmental technical solutions during bid development and project management phases, the Engineer also contributes to general project engineering tasks. This includes taking on technical and regulatory responsibilities in environmental engineering and across various engineering disciplines. The role demands independence in delivering standard design tasks and the ability to review and verify the work of others in specific analysis and design activities across different fields.

 

Collaboration is critical in this position. The Environmental Project Engineer is expected to work effectively with Senior Project personnel and other team members across different disciplines, contributing to the delivery of environmental and general engineering tasks. This involves applying standard tools in complex processes and adapting to diverse project requirements. Building and maintaining positive relationships with external stakeholders and cross-functional teams is essential for completing projects with various objectives.

 

The technical competencies required for this role include a strong foundation in environmental engineering and compliance, such as environmental impact assessment modelling and sustainable practice development. Additionally, the Engineer should be capable of supporting various aspects of project design, development, and commissioning, including areas like waste management, process engineering, and radiological disciplines. This broad skill set enables the Engineer to contribute effectively to projects with both environmental and general engineering goals.

 

Effective communication remains a cornerstone of this role, with the Engineer required to articulate complex environmental and engineering problems, solutions, and proposal to various stakeholders. The Engineer is responsible for delivering technical requirements across multiple projects, reviewing engineering requirements in projects of varying complexity, and delivering project requirements individually or as part of a team.

 

In summary, the Environmental Project Engineer’s role is integral to designing, developing, implementing, and analysing complex technical systems and projects, primarily focusing on environmental objectives and a strong commitment to general project engineering responsibilities. They will contribute to critical stages of the project lifecycle, from environmental goals to broader technical challenges.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • A personal commitment to maintaining the nuclear safety culture at Westinghouse and compliance with company policies.
  • Providing support in the development of environmental and technical solutions throughout the project lifecycle. This may include contributions to reviews and discussions and the input to, production of and review of a wide range of project documentation. Examples of project documentation which may be required are; Feasibility Studies, Requirements Assessment, Optioneering studies, Literature Reviews, Permit Variations/Applications, Hazard Management Strategies, Waste Management Strategies, Design proposals, Design Reviews, Sampling Plans, HAZOP studies, CDM risk registers, Technical Files, flow diagrams, technical drawings, Global Compensation Dept. only: Date Reviewed: Job Evaluation #: SAP Job Key #: Band/Level: FLSA (US): Reviewed by: Global Job Description Westinghouse Global Compensation – January 2017 Energy and Mass Balance, Calculations, Best Available Technique assessments, Environmental Permitting Requirements, Environmental Monitoring and any other documentation necessary in the course of a project.
  • Use verbal and written communications to define, progress and report or present back on assigned technical reports. This may include communications within the project team, internal Westinghouse stakeholders, suppliers, clients and regulators and others as appropriate
  • Self-motivated, capable determining required activities, prioritizing and scheduling tasks whilst progressing towards an agreed project deliverable.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with team members, internal stakeholder and clients or partner organizations.
  • A commitment to personal development.
  • Use standard office software and any specialist software as required.

 

 

Education and Qualifications / Skills and Competencies:

 

  • Preferrable to have an Environmental Science or Engineering Degree to MSc level or BSc level with relevant experience (see below).
  • At least 2 years of experience in Project or Engineer roles. Examples to include:
    • Interfacing with EHS&Q stakeholders and providing input to the safety case development cycle.
    • Providing technical input into projects via calculations or practical evaluations.
    • Engagement on a technical level with customers.
    • Contributing technical and environmental engineering decision making across small, medium and large sized projects.
    • Working within the requirements of Springfields major project quality plans.
