Welcome to Westinghouse and the global Fuel Materials Innovation team. We are a group of materials specialists based in the USA and Europe and are part of the Fuel Engineering organization in the Nuclear Fuel Business Unit.

 

As a member of our team your main responsibility will be to develop materials for fuel assemblies for existing and future nuclear reactors. Our team’s focus areas encompass materials for all parts of the fuel assemblies, from the ceramic uranium pellets to metallic components such as Zr-based fuel cladding and fuel channels, while also developing Accident Tolerant Fuel (ATF) features, e.g., surface coatings.

 

 

Your contribution for a carbon-free future You will be one of our key experts in developing next generation materials solutions. In this role you will cooperate with colleagues within Westinghouse as well as with external parties at universities, laboratories, suppliers, and customers, as well as in joint international programs to:

 

  • Develop next generation fuel assembly materials solutions for existing and future nuclear reactors.
  • Develop technologies and processes for manufacturing fuel assembly components.
  • Support the licensing of fuel materials as well as fuel rod performance models and methods.

 

This role is situated in Springfields, UK, with the flexibility to work in a desired mix of time spent in the office and time working remotely.

 

We are looking for you

 

With an advanced degree in materials and a strong scientific and engineering interest in the field. You have professional experience, an eager to further develop your skills and a drive to learn.

 

To be a good match in this role you have strong communication and cooperation skills and enjoy working in challenging development projects, both independently and in teams.

 

Qualifications

  •  MSc or PhD in physics or chemistry, preferably related to nuclear applications.
  •  At least 15 years of professional experience of materials in nuclear applications.
  •  At least 2 years of experience from designing, operating, and evaluating experiments performed in test-reactors.
  •  Professional working proficiency in English, both speaking and writing.
