Independent Nuclear Assurance Role

The Job:

  • Working within the Independent Nuclear Assurance Team to create and deliver the assurance plan for the Springfields Site;
  • Undertake planned assessment, surveillance and concurrence activities across a wide range of topic areas such as Operations, Programmes, Projects, submissions, internal processes, contracts, governance processes.
  • Undertake assessment work due to emergent requirements.
  • Monitoring and tracking the Assurance Plan to ensure key activities are being delivered and identify areas where progress may not be to plan.
  • Report all findings, outcomes and conclusions in a timely manner, such that the degree of safety, security and environmental compliance against legislative or company requirements is clearly identified and formally communicated to internal stakeholders.  Escalate risks and issues as necessary to ensure visibility and resolution.
  • Provide independent advice, guidance and recommendations to the SFL Board, to enable future improvement in safety, environmental and security performance and regulatory compliance on the Springfields Site.
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholder functions as required, such as Internal Audit and relevant Corporate functions.
  • Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a collaborative working relationship with key external Regulators assigned to the Licensed sites, such that the contribution of the Internal Regulator is visible, respected and valued.
  • Provide a source of independent specialist advice and guidance on all matters associated with their area of subject matter expertise to the wider business in support of its decision-making processes, organisational learning and interpretation of legal requirements and regulatory compliance.

What you need to be successful in this role:

  • Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline (e.g. Safety, Engineering, Science, Mathematics, Environmental Management, Security Management or CPNI qualifications).
  • Effective communicator with a high degree of resilience.
  • Experience of working on a highly regulated site (preferably a Nuclear Licensed Site).
  • Experience of developing, planning and undertaking oversight and assurance assessment activities and reporting outcomes to the business, both verbally and written.

Experience in the following areas would be advantageous:

  • Understanding of the nuclear regulatory requirements and expectations for a nuclear licensed site as well as general awareness of relevant UK legislation, industry good practice and regulatory guidance relevant to safety, environment and security.
  • Experience of managing, generating and implementing nuclear facility safety cases, environmental cases or nuclear site security plans.
  • Experience of delivery of security standards and regulatory requirements for Nuclear Licensed sites.
  • Experience of compliance with Environmental Permits.
  • Experience of design, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance or decommissioning of facilities on a highly regulated site.
