As a L2 Process Operative Apprentice, you will have a training and interesting role in our production plant. You will come with on-the-job learning and a dedicated induction and mentoring programme, preparing you for a rewarding, career within the nuclear industry.
Development Journey
You'll be on site and you'll work towards gaining an Intermediate Apprenticeship in manufacturing at Level 2, which is 20 months. This will include classroom work and assignments to complete alongside a portfolio to showcase your competency and understanding of the role. Additionally, you will need to work in the role. You will work within one of the processing departments at Westinghouse - Springfields. Here, you will learn how each team works together. Additionally, you will work with our external partners. This collaboration will allow you to gain knowledge on how we work, produce our product, and monitor the process. You will also work with other teams.
We will support you each step of the way. This support will ensure you have the right resources to succeed. To achieve this, we will work with multiple colleagues within different departments at Westinghouse - Springfields, located on site at Salwick, Nr Preston.
What Else Will I Learn?
As well as gaining great practical experience in process manufacturing, regulatory requirements, and the safety aspects of the nuclear industry, you will learn important skills. These skills include communication and teamworking with the operational areas.
Your Training
You will undertake all the tasks and learning required as an apprentice to become competent in the role of production manufacturing at the end of the apprenticeship scheme. You'll experience different aspects of the process, recording and monitoring working with experienced members of the team within the department. You will undertake all the tasks and learning required as an apprentice to become a competent employee at the end of the apprenticeship.
You'll experience working within a team in the manufacturing process. This will help you understand the planning and carrying out of sampling and analysis of materials. You'll also learn about recording using the required administration procedures. Additionally, you'll receive training that supports the business in daily tasks and projects. Communicating with other departments in the business will gain you a great understanding. You'll also gain practical experience of what's involved in keeping our internal and external customers happy and providing them with a positive experience. You'll also get a great insight into how Westinghouse-Springfields carries out manufacturing of materials across the site. Additionally, you'll learn what Westinghouse-Springfields involves in getting resources and skilled people into the business. This enables Westinghouse-Springfields to send supplies and services to our customers.
What Skills Do You Need?

Entry requirements
3 GCSE's including maths, English and Science at grade 4-9, A-C

The programme typically starts the 3rd week of August 2026.
