As a Mechanical Engineer (Pressure Systems Assessment Engineer) you will provide specialist technical support, involving design assessment, and the formulation and maintenance of Written Schemes of Examination for relevant assets across the Springfields site. The role is site-based. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provision of an independent design verification service within Springfields, catering for new, in-service and repaired equipment within the following categories: 

  • Pressure Vessels 

  • Hazardous chemical containing vessels and equipment 

  • Piping systems 

  • Mechanical safety accessories and relief streams 

  • Nuclear transport packages  

  • Create new and amend existing Written Schemes of Examination for pressure and hazardous content systems. 

  • Approval of quality plans and TQs/concessions associated with the manufacture and repair of equipment. 

  • Lead Authoritative Technical Reviews related to Fitness for Service and Risk Based changes to inspection regimes within Written Schemes of Examinations. 

  • Provision of technical guidance to personnel at all levels of the organisation on the above stated categories. 

  • Some organisation/planning of contractor inspection resource. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Graduate Mechanical Engineer or equivalent in a relevant discipline or working towards graduate mechanical engineer status with relevant pressure/hazardous content systems experience. 

  • Experience of the examination of pressure systems as required by the PSSRs. 

  • Ability to interpret national and international codes and standards for designing and constructing pressure vessels, piping systems and associated safety accessories. 

  • Incorporated Engineer or working towards achieving professional registration. 

 

Desirable Skills: 

  • Thorough understanding of the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations and the Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations. 

  • Good working knowledge of relevant NDT techniques. 

  • Knowledge of welding techniques and repair methodologies associated with high hazard pressure systems.
