As Mechanical Engineer you will work in partnership with leaders, key stakeholders, and the Engineering Team to implement solutions to high engineering standards, both design and technical and in compliance with statutory regulations by ensuring that industry best practice is followed, including PSSR, PUWER and LOLER. You will be Supporting all aspects the lifecycle of a chemical plant from design through to decommissioning.

You will drive improvements in the mechanical engineering, providing coaching and leading a culture of continuous improvement within the team.

Reporting to the Plant Manager and Responsible Engineer you will be responsible for maintaining the mechanical engineering competency standards.

 

Your day to day:

  • Effective and efficient engineering support for operational areas
  • Manage schedules, frequencies, maintenance of assets
  • Maintaining compliance with regulatory and safety case requirements
  • Improving all aspects of plant and personnel safety
  • Defining, measuring and improving Key Performance Indicators
  • Process mapping for identification and delivery plant improvements
  • Providing advice and guidance on technical aspects of plant operations including technical and operational problem solving
  • Deputise for the Plant Manager where required
  • Produce / author maintenance instructions, engineering reports and technical documentation
  • Developing and coaching plant personnel

 

What you need to be successful in this role:

  • Typically Engineering Degree (minimum 2:2) qualified or equivalent experience/knowledge in relevant discipline
  • Suitable, relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications
  • Ideally. to be registered with or working towards registration with a professional institute

Experience

Our ideal candidate will have experience as a mechanical engineer, preferably in a COMAH regulated industrial environment supporting the operations and scheduled maintenance. In addition to proven experience of successfully leading and delivering engineering projects and solutions as well as proven experience of the application of detailed problem solving to resolve complex problems. Knowledge and practical application of continuous improvement methods are a requirement.

Appreciation of nuclear site license conditions relevant to mechanical engineering and maintenance and ONR technical assessment guidance. Familiarisation with PSSR specifically working with Written Schemes of Examinations would be advantageous.

Experience with holding responsibility for engineering safety and regulatory compliance.

Ideally, we are looking for someone with extensive knowledge and practical application of mechanical reliability principles, mechanical statutory regulations, and mechanical related process safety activities in hazardous facilities.
