As the Physical Security Manager reporting to the Site Security and Safeguarding Manager, you will ensure the Springfields fuels site meets the highest standards of security, covering physical, information, personnel, and nuclear security. You will sit within a security Team that forms part of the Security and Safeguarding function, which sets standards and strategies for delivery to meet SFL policies, including risk and regulatory, consents, licensing and permitting.

You will help develop and implement security policies, plans, and procedures, ensuring compliance with nuclear security regulations, and mitigating both delivery-stage and operational security risks across the site. You will provide security advice to those responsible persons to support security procedure creation, implementation and review.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop and ensure implementation of a comprehensive Security Culture Programme across the Springfields Site, aligned with UK nuclear security regulations and government security policies.

  • Advise responsible owners to create, establish and maintain Security Management Plans ensuring integration with wider Safety and Assurance frameworks.

  • Oversee security risk assessments and ensure risk mitigation strategies are in place.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant UK nuclear security regulations, including Nuclear Industries Security Regulations (NISR) 2003, and ONR Security Assessment Principles (SyAPs).

  • Comfortable, if required, partnering with security regulators and other bodies, including the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), National Protective Security Authority (NPSA), Lancashire Police and other main external partners.

  • Advise stakeholders and responsible owners, where required, to ensure security documentation, including Facility Security Plans are fit for purpose and meet regulatory requirements.

  • Where required advise and direct the contracted guard force in the delivery of their contracted responsibilities, being the intelligent customer.

  • Where required Implement, advise and oversee physical security measures, ensuring the protection of nuclear materials, facilities, and assets.

  • Advise and deliver, where required, Security Threat & Risk Assessments (STRAs) to identify, evaluate, and mitigate security threats.

  • Where required work with contractors and supply chain partners to ensure they comply with contracted supply chain security aspects as reported within security aspects lett.

  • Provide regular reports to the Site Security and Safeguarding Manager, on security risks and performance of site wide mitigation measures.

  • Help foster a positive and inclusive team environment that aligns with cultural values.

  • Make informed decisions considering diverse perspectives and organisational goals.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:

  • Experience in security management within nuclear, government, defence, or regulated industries.

  • Work understanding of UK nuclear security regulations (NISR 2003, SyAPs, NPSA guidelines).

  • Track record in managing security mitigations, risk assessments, and crisis response (military or police background)

  • Experience engaging with regulators and other main external organisations.

  • The capability to embrace change and uncertainty and welcome the emergent aspect of the job.

  • Ability to foster a collaborative and supportive environment, whilst developing team members’ skills and capabilities.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative, multi-party environment at pace.

Qualifications:

  • Level 5 Security Management Diploma or willing to complete within 24 months.

  • Membership of / registration with a recognised security professional body (e.g. Member of the Security Institute)

     

Security Requirements:

  • Due to role requirements, you must be a UK national and hold or be able to achieve Developed Vetting within 6 months of role commencement.
