As a Safeguards SME you will support the Growth Projects providing support, advice, and guidance on all aspects on Safeguards concerning any new build within the Westinghouse UK site.

You will report directly to the Project Manager from a delivery perspective but will report directly to the Head of Security and Safeguards to ensure compliance with The Nuclear Safeguards (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 (NSR 19).

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Safeguards by design expectations.

  • Familiarisation and understanding of The Nuclear Safeguards (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 (NSR 19).

  • Familiarisation of the ONR Nuclear Material Accountancy, Control, and Safeguards Assessment Principles (ONMACS).

  • Ensuring compliance with the Safeguards regulations and an ability to ensure that any changes are implemented accordingly to appropriate processes and procedures.

  • Provide advice on the Nuclear Material Accountancy and Control ONR regulations and where there are any changes the impact this will have on any new projects.

  • Liaise with stakeholders on international and national best/good practice.

  • Awareness and understanding of the Springfields Accountancy Control Plan.

  • Advise Nuclear Material Accountancy and safeguards requirements and any implications during all phases of a project.

  • Managing the production of Nuclear Material Accountancy reports for stakeholders.

  • Work closely with the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) in terms of regular reporting, quarterly meetings, audits, andassessments.

  • Ensure adherence of Safeguarding Springfields Site Instructions.

  • Act as a NUMIS “superuser” to support the projects where required.

  • Advise site management and site projects on Nuclear Material Accountancy and safeguards requirements, including an appreciation of the ONR Fundamental Safeguarding Expectations, and ONR Guidance on Nuclear Material Accountancy, Control & Safeguards.

     

Qualifications:

  • Preferred qualified to Degree or HNC/HND level, or a minimum of 5 years' relevant experience working within a similar role. Experience of Safeguards within a nuclear environment.

  • Technical advice on specific nuclear fuel-related issues within the Safeguards arena. Awareness of safety cases and the implications when working on a new build within the nuclear industry.

  • Ability to implement best practice solutions by designing and implementing accountancy plans for new flows/facilities. Engineering/operational plant experience.

  • Support the implementation of a new build project within the nuclear sector. Prepare, analyse, consolidate, report, and present data/information.

  • Decipher government guidance and regulations and implement them into policies and procedures.
