As a Welder you will perform high-quality welding operations in a broad range of materials in all positions, both within the workshop environment and onsite following approved weld procedures and industry standards.

The Main Workshops team support the site through manufacture and repair of components in a broad range of materials and product form both within the workshop environment and onsite.

You will work for Westinghouse Electric Company at the Springfields site near Preston as part of the Main Workshops team.

 

You will be expected to pass a range of BS EN ISO 9606-1 & BS EN ISO 9606-4 welder qualification tests (many in the H-L045/6G position) utilising the conventional welding processes TIG, MMA & MAG.

Note: candidates may be required to perform a trade test at interview stage.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain (and maintain through prolongation) a range of BS EN ISO 9606-1 & BS EN ISO 9606-4 welder approvals.
  • Produce welding work that meets quality requirements, specification and NDT acceptance criteria.
  • Read and interpret technical engineering drawings, welding symbols, and specifications.
  • Operate and maintain welding equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Complete documentation for weld traceability and certification.
  • Work collaboratively within the fabrication team to meet work package deadlines.
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental rules and regulations.

 

Qualifications:

  • 5 years+ experience working within high quality welding role.

· Pipe fitting experience/skills.

· Fabrication experience/skills e.g. development, rolling, pressing, marking out, drilling, punching etc.

  • Familiarity with NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) processes.
  • Time served apprenticeship in welding/fabrication (NVQ level 3 or equivalent).
  • Hold/ have previously held BS EN ISO 9606 welder qualifications (or equivalent).
  • Proven track record of producing welding work that meets quality requirements, specification and NDT acceptance criteria, including radiography.
  • Capable of interpreting technical engineering drawings, welding symbols, and specifications.
