About the role:

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will manage the design of software control systems and components. These systems and components will use both the traditional nuclear market and new projects to develop nuclear technology and future nuclear-powered systems.

 

You will report to the Engineering Manager and be located at Shoreview, MN. This is a hybrid role requiring presence onsite 2-3 days a week.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead teams of engineers, providing direction in the development of software solutions using a structured design process.
  • Provide technical oversight and mentoring of members of the Engineering team.
  • Operate as project technical lead, working with the project manager and other discipline lead (mechanical/electrical) to ensure project scope, schedule and cost are controlled and accomplished against.
  • Provide software technical support to sales and application engineers during proposal preparation, pre-contract award customer meetings, and compliance matrix development.
  • Support offer development and contract review.
  • Through collaboration with the greater department, develop standard operating procedures to increase productivity and efficiency of our services and technology that we provide.
  • Develop software design concepts for projects, limited scope modifications, R&D, First of a Kind, and Capital Expense projects.
  • Develop cost software modularity and standardization.
  • Verify work of other engineers on assignments that range from basic to complex.
  • Prepare cost benefit studies.
  • Propose and initiate test programs and evaluate results.
  • Identify areas for product/service improvements.
  • Participate in customer and vendor meetings to present technical materials and justification of services and product designs.
  • Identify and help develop new business opportunities.
  • Review/verify design reports, technical documentation and drawings.
  • Drive innovation and new methods in the development of new technologies and nuclear systems.
  • Collaborate globally within Westinghouse alongside other technical leaders/SMEs and nuclear specialists.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in conceptual software design development reviews and engineering change control processes.
  • Experience in industrial software/controls design, working with Emerson PLCs and Siemens PLCs.
  • Experience with mechanical/electrical machine design.
  • Comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations.

 

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $103,200 to $129,000 per year.
