About the role:

I&C Engineer - 12 Months

Surry Nuclear Station

Surry, VA

You will be asked to fill a position as an I&C Project Engineer for the Surry Digital I&C Program. The Digital I&C project is a 10+ year effort as part of Subsequent License Renewal (SLR) to upgrade safety and non-safety-related analog systems to state-of-the-art digital technology and modernize the main control room. This role works with a cross-functional team of station stakeholders, project leads, and project managers to prepare and evaluate modifications to the plant design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and contributing to safety system I&C architecture decision-making, conceptual designs, and scoping refinement
  • Review and/or prepare engineering products (e.g., Design / Engineering Change packages, Specifications, Calculations, Technical Evaluations, Hazard Analyses)
  • Oversee contracted engineering work and ensure consistency and compliance with Dominion Energy and industry standards
  • Provide technical support, input, and oversight for Factory and Site Acceptance Testing and Simulations (e.g., reviewing and approving procedures and observing activities)
  • Interface with the primary equipment supplier and project stakeholders to support technical reviews and input
  • Analyze engineering risk and failure modes and incorporating mitigating strategies in the designs
  • Report and present status to engineering team lead, project managers, and management team on a periodic basis

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of directly-related instrumentation & controls design engineering experience in a power generating station, nuclear background
  • 10+ years of industry experience
  • Have a 4-year Electrical, Computer, or Systems Engineering Degree or equivalent electrical/I&C/computer/systems engineering field experience
  • Hold or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license can be used in lieu of a 4-year degree
  • Experience with nuclear power plant design, systems, and components
  • Specification, technical, engineering writing ability
  • 50.59 (screen and evaluation) and nuclear licensing experience, including usage of vendor topical reports
  • Standard Design Process qualification for nuclear Engineering Changes desired, but not required
  • Engineering specification qualification, including the ability to interpret and apply industry regulations and standards
  • Knowledge of and experience with nuclear protection systems, specifically PWR process protection, reactor trip systems (RTS), and engineered safety feature actuation systems (ESFAS)
  • Knowledge of and experience with requirements engineering and management
  • Experience with digital industrial systems such as Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and/or Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems and associated computers, communications, and networks
  • In-depth knowledge of industry advances in control system monitoring, testing and analysis of control equipment, and controls theory
  • Knowledge of and experience with power plant controls, steam turbine control systems, combustion turbine control systems, balance of plant control systems
  • Knowledge of and experience with electrical and electronics theory
