As the quality leader for the Canadian business, the Quality & EHS Director will have full responsibility for the effectiveness and suitability of Canada’s quality program in alignment with required Canadian codes and standards as well as the Global Westinghouse Quality Management System. The Quality & EHS Director will evaluate the existing program and champion necessary changes to address audit findings and prevailing inefficiencies. This includes standardization across multiple Canadian facilities and businesses that were incorporated through acquisitions. The Quality & EHS Director is the quality management representative for Canada and will interface with customers and regulators to ensure compliance with Canadian industry standards, including N299.1, N285.0, N286 and ISO 9001. This role is responsible for establishing and leading an appropriate path forward to further qualify the organization under additional industry standards aligned with business strategies. This role is also responsible for quality assurance of projects, facilities and field site locations including independent assessment, the process of development and maintenance of implementing procedures.  This also includes resource planning and workforce training for applicable quality processes and standards.

 

The Quality & EHS Director is also responsible for Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) including compliance with Canadian requirements and standards as well as alignment with Westinghouse’s policies and procedures.

 

The Quality  & EHS Director will collaborate with the global Quality team and Global Operations Services leading a team of matrixed 20 staff and 10 direct staff, to position Westinghouse Canada to meet its enterprise goals.  This includes reviews of project proposals, qualification of suppliers, and driving continuous improvement in product and service quality delivered to our customers.

 

Your Day to Day:

  • Manage development and implementation of Westinghouse Canada quality policies in compliance with customer requirements, codes and standards.
  • Manage team of QA staff to support Canada's Quality Assurance Program, manage Qualified Supplier List (QSL), and lead continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure alignment with Canadian Environmental, Health and Safety requirements and standards as well as alignment with Westinghouse’s policies and procedures.
  • Monitor changes to Westinghouse global QMS and maintain alignment of Canadian QA programs.
  • Promote a culture of compliance and customer satisfaction specific to Canadian quality requirements and standards
  • Ensure quality program changes are effectively communicated and implemented throughout Business Unit and Global Operations Services.
  • Interface on quality matters with the regulator, authority having jusrisdication and the customer
  • Interface with all disciplines on quality matters (Engineering, Procurement, Production, Sales, EHS/HU)
  • Oversee internal and external audits, project audits, management assessments
  • Lead and manage corrective action program for Canada
  • Recommend, resolve and implement solutions to quality problems.
  • Work closely with tendering and project teams to ensure quality requirements are planned for and met during execution
  • Develop, implement and maintain quality indoctrination training and other education programs
  • Implement quality assurance best practices through continuous improvement. 
  • Develop department budget and control expenditures to remain within budget. 
  • Ensure staff are appropriately trained and manage employee performance to achieve department goals and objectives.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor’s degree (technical discipline preferred)
  • 10 years or progressively responsible quality program administration
  • Minimum 5 years experience in nuclear quality management
  • ASQ Quality Engineer or Manager of Quality (preferred)
  • Nuclear Lead Auditor qualification (preferred)
  • Thorough knowledge of Canadian nuclear codes and standards including N299.1, N285.0, N286, and ISO 9001
  • Broad knowledge of quality assurance principles and operations
  • Understanding of CANDU Reactor technology is an asset.
