Technical Writer

Technical Writer - Peterborough, Canada 

 

Position Summary:

Support the Engineering and Design teams with the authoring of technical manuals and procedures.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop technical content for documentation using engineering and design data as raw material
  • Work with engineering, design, and manufacturing staff to collect product knowledge for use in technical documents
  • Generate and process graphics for use in documents using 2D and 3D CAD files (primarily SolidWorks), photographs, etc.
  • Author documents for mechanical and electrical systems/equipment, including operating, maintenance and installation manuals, commissioning/factory acceptance test procedures, technical specifications and design descriptions
  • Co-ordinate review and approval of documents with stakeholders
  • Prepare final documents that are complete and of professional quality
  • Manage documentation templates and standards

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education degree or diploma from a recognized engineering or technical program
  • Preference will be given to those with nuclear or related industry
  • Mechanical experience and demonstrable aptitude required
  • Hydraulic, electrical, and software experience strongly preferred


Experience in the following areas is expected:

  • High level of proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel & Visio), SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Proven technical documentation abilities
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods, commissioning and acceptance testing
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, process flowsheets and schematics (electrical and hydraulic)
  • Detail oriented

 
Experience in the following would be advantageous:

  • Experience in the manufacturing and testing of special purpose equipment for nuclear applications under CSA N299.1
  • Completion of design and component level FMEA
  • Knowledge of electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic control systems
  • Preparation of proposals


This is a challenging position that will require a solid technical background and as you will be working as part of a team, strong interpersonal and communication abilities including literacy skills are essential. You will possess problem solving skills plus a creative yet methodical approach.
