About the role:

Welcome to Westinghouse and Global Engineering Services. We are around 2000 engineers globally with competence in materials, chemistry, components, structural analysis, thermohydraulic and safety analysis, contributing with engineering expertise to multiple projects at Westinghouse.

As a Materials/Chemical Engineer, you will help ensure that material performance meets the safety and quality requirements set by Westinghouse, our customers, and international authorities. Additionally, you will also ensure that water chemistry and chemical conditions in different plants, including BWRs, PWRs, and VVERs, meet these requirements. We operate on a large and global market with complex technical challenges.

You will join a team of thirteen Engineers working in areas such as material degradation, water chemistry, radiochemistry, fuel‑related chemical processes, and investigations of chemical impurity limits and material performance in nuclear applications. This means you will learn from experienced colleagues and develop in multiple areas in your role.

You will report to the Manager, BWR Components, Chemistry & EQ and be located it Västerås., Sweden.

Model of work: hybrid.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • As a Materials/Chemical Engineer, your main responsibility will be to manage material‑ and chemical‑related assessments of material degradation, water chemistry, radiochemical behaviour and chemical process conditions in different systems of plants.
  • Among other things, this means that you will:
    • Accomplish assessments of material behaviour, water chemistry and radiochemical processes under varying operational conditions and scenarios.
    • Perform material‑ and chemical‑related evaluations to ensure compliance with current and new requirements for nuclear systems focusing on polymeric materials
    • Document your work in reports

 

Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Engineering Physics, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or another field providing a technical and theoretical foundation
  • Scripting and programming skills; experience with Python is meritorious, as is experience from working in Linux/Unix environments
  • Full professional proficiency in English
  • Full professional proficiency in Swedish is meritorious but not a requirement for this role
