About the role:
As a Thermal Cutting Product Manager at DD&WM, you will lead the strategy, development, and deployment of advanced cutting solutions. These solutions include plasma, laser, arc, oxy-fuel, and robotic cutting, and companies use them in nuclear decommissioning projects. Nuclear decommissioning projects involve the complex process of dismantling and decontaminating nuclear facilities.
You will be the bridge between engineering, operations, and commercial teams, ensuring that cutting technologies meet safety, regulatory, and project performance requirements across global decommissioning programs.
You will report to the D&D Director, ELA OMS and be located in Västerås, Sweden.

Key Responsibilities:
Product Strategy & Lifecycle Management:
- Define product roadmap for thermal cutting technologies used in reactor dismantling (steel, concrete, contaminated structures).
- Manage full lifecycle: concept → development → qualification → deployment → obsolescence.
- Align solutions with customer needs, regulatory constraints, and project cost targets.
Technical Leadership
- Collaborate with engineering teams on:Cutting systems (plasma arc, laser, diamond wire hybrid solutions)Remote/robotic cutting in radioactive environments
- Ensure compliance with nuclear codes and standards (e.g., ASME, nuclear QA)
- Support technology selection for dismantling scenarios (e.g., reactor pressure vessels, piping, biological shields).
Project Support:
Work with project managers to:
- Define cutting methodologies for dismantling campaigns
- Estimate costs, schedules, and risks
- Support procurement and supplier qualification
- Contribute to execution of decommissioning projects.
Commercial & Business Development:
- Identify opportunities for deploying cutting technologies in:Europe (e.g., legacy reactors, research facilities)Asia (growing decommissioning pipeline)Latin America (latest nuclear programs)
- Support bids, proposals, and contract negotiations.
- Monitor market trends and competitor technologies in decommissioning.
Stakeholder & Customer Engagement:
Work with:
- Utilities and nuclear site operatorsRegulators and safety authorities
- International partners and subcontractors
- Represent us at conferences and technical forums.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
Promote adoption of:
- Remote handling and robotics
- Digital tools (simulation, thermal modeling, cutting optimization)
- Incorporate lessons learned from global decommissioning projects and technology advancements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in: Mechanical Engineering/ Nuclear Engineering/ Materials Science or related field
- ~8–12+ years of experience in Nuclear industry, heavy engineering, or decommissioning
- Product management or technical leadership roles
- Knowledge of thermal cutting technologies (plasma, laser, arc, oxy-fuel) and nuclear decommissioning processes and constraints
- Understanding of radiological environments and remote operations, Waste segmentation and size reduction, Nuclear quality standards and qualification processes
- Commercial mindset (product and market fit)
- Very good English skills, additional languages (Spanish, French, Swedish) are advantageous
