As a Principal Platform Support Engineer, you will be the senior technical interface between Westinghouse I&C teams and non-safety control system platform vendors. You will lead high-quality resolution of complex technical issues affecting company partners and external customers, and for shaping platform direction through standards, lifecycle strategy, and continuous improvement. In collaboration with vendors, customers, and other Westinghouse organizations, the Principal Platform Support Engineer develops practical solutions. These solutions lead projects that improve reliability, cybersecurity, maintainability, and overall customer experience for our non-safety control system offerings.
You will report to the GOS Manager; Control and Information System Engineering and be located at the Cranberry, PA facility. This is a hybrid role based in Cranberry. There is no relocation assistance provided for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide platform architecture guidance and technical consultation for industrial control systems.
- Manage control system platform standards, reference architectures, and governance; define technology roadmaps and lifecycle planning in collaboration with vendors and company partners.
- Lead obsolescence management strategy (part changes, vendor notices, form/fit/function evaluations), including risk assessments, mitigation plans, and partner communications.
- Be an escalation point for internal engineering teams and customers: lead incident evaluation, perform root-cause analysis, and develop solutions and corrective action.
- Provide clear, relevant technical communications to all partners (technical advisories, limitations, recommended practices, release impact notes), and represent Westinghouse in vendor and customer technical forums.
- Improve support effectiveness by defining/optimizing technical support processes, tracking recurring issues, and driving systemic fixes with platform roadmaps.
- Oversee and approve important platform baseline documentation (standards, reference architectures, known limitations, and support strategies); guide standardization and reuse across programs.
- Up to 25% travel to support customer systems, though we generally offer additional opportunities for field and site work.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
- 7 + years of experience in industrial controls engineering, platform engineering, or a related role, including ownership of technical outcomes across multiple projects.
- Deep hands-on experience with common PLC, SCADA, or DCS platforms, configuration management, and vendor technical engagement.
- Demonstrated experience providing senior technical support to company partners and external customers, including leading escalations, managing technical risk, and communicating with non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated mastery of engineering principles and techniques, including requirements development, architecture/design methods, and disciplined problem solving in regulated/quality-controlled environments.
- Experience delivering and sustaining industrial control systems in operational environments, including commissioning/startup support, root-cause analysis, and long-term corrective actions.
- Knowledge of field instrumentation and control devices typical to the power industry, including interface definition, signal conditioning, and integration constraints.
- Interpret and review industry standard drawings (P&IDs, loop diagrams, cabinet drawings, panel layouts).
We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $103,200 to $129,000 per year.
