Software Engineer: Nuclear Science & Applications
The role will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving applications built upon the Windows platform to support innovative solutions created for the commercial nuclear sector of the energy market. The ideal candidate will have a sound knowledge of nuclear physics, C/C++ while employing SOLID design principles.
Your Day to Day:
- Design, develop, implement, support, and maintain applications based on business requirements, using approved technologies and coding standards.
- Design, develop, implement, support, and maintain software components and systems to adhere to and satisfy engineering, scientific, regulatory, and manufacturing requirements.
- Act as an entry level in design development, coding, testing, and debugging new nuclear and legacy applications.
- Apply secure coding practices to prevent security vulnerabilities in code and apply object-oriented principles when implementing solutions.
- Maintain code quality through unit testing and solid documentation.
- Communicate with business partners to gather accurate specifications for new enhancements and applications.
- Maintain knowledge of application security best practices and modern vulnerabilities.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to devise solutions to nuclear problems
- Logical thinking and analytical skills to design simulations and experiments and assess their results
- Writing skills to produce clear, concise specifications and reports
- Verbal communication skills to collaborate with scientists, operators and other engineers
- Observational skills and attentiveness to detail to identify potential risks during the construction or manufacturing process
- Computer skills to utilize mathematical simulation, computer-aided drafting (CAD), relationship database, presentation, spreadsheet, word processing and other software
- Familiarity with laws and regulations related to nuclear energy
Who are you:
The Successful candidate will bring:
- B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
- In-depth knowledge of physics, engineering science, mathematics and nuclear energy
- Knowledge of Nuclear Science and Applications.
- 0-3 years of experience in software development.
- C/C++ programing experience.
- Experience writing requirements specifications, test procedures, users guides and test reports.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred (not required):
- Experience in Modbus/OPC protocols.
- Familiarity with Cisco switch configuration.
- Experience with Wireshark troubleshooting.
This position is hybrid in nature requiring 2 days/week on-site at the Westinghouse Global Headquarters facility in Cranberry Woods / Warrendale, PA in the Greater Pittsburgh Area.
