Job Description

Would you like to Supplement your income with extra money.  We are looking for candidates to work at Millstone Nuclear Plant as Part-time / As needed Firewatches. Candidates will be badged at Millstone Power Station.  MUST BE LOCAL TO WATERFORD, CT

 

Firewatch must be able to read, understand, and comply with training and requirements written at the high school level and to communicate with co-workers.  Firewatch personnel may encounter situations where fire is present and, therefore, shall be capable of responding to fires per procedures (i.e., they should have no fear of fires.) 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Spending long periods of time in the physical activities of standing, sitting, walking, climbing multiple flights of stairs, climbing multiple flights of straight ladders, light lifting, carrying, twisting, kneeling, stooping, bending, and crouching as required
  • Visually monitor assigned work locations or 'roving' through a number of positions to detect the presence of fire 
  • Assess conditions in an area with a higher potential of fire (e.g., welding) to identify fires or conditions that could lead to the development of a fire 
  • Operating specialized equipment per procedures & training (e.g., fire extinguishers)  
  • Access the Radiological Controlled Areas within the plant.  This includes understanding and practicing the proper protocol for entering and exiting these areas.
  • Adhering to BHI Energy and Site regulations, policies, and procedures. 

Qualifications / Education / Experience

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Must have valid driver's license client does not accept temporary paper printed DMV licenses. 
  • Must be able to be on-call minimum of 3 shifts per week which comes with that $50 dollar a month incentive that they get paid out twice a year for. 
  • Must be comfortable walking long distances, going up and down flights of stairs and flights of straight ladders each hour for that 12.5-hour shift. 
  • Employees typically get a break every other hour. If it's very busy they might do 2 hours on 1 hour off. 
  • Must be able to lift equipment ranging in weight from 1- 50 lbs.  Equipment or containers that weigh >45 lbs. are lifted by Firewatch personnel with the assistance of others and/or by use of equipment designed to carry the load. 
  • Candidates must pass a Nuclear Background Investigation and drug screening in order to be badged.  Once badged, candidates will be subject to ongoing, random drug screenings.
