Lead Engineer (Robotics and Tooling) – Burlington, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid work arrangement available of 2 to 3 days per week in the office)

 

About the Opportunity

 

Westinghouse Electric Canada is a leading supplier of custom equipment, process systems and engineering consultant services for the Nuclear industry in Canada.  The successful candidate will join an innovative team that supports Westinghouse’s mission to provide clean energy solutions.

 

As part of our growing team, the successful candidate will be responsible, for the design of mechanical systems and/or components both in the traditional nuclear market and in new initiatives to develop nuclear technology and future nuclear-powered systems.

 

It is a bona fide job requirement to be eligible and authorized to travel to the U.S. on Westinghouse business, and such travel is subject to the rules and regulations of the U.S. Department of Energy, as well as compliance with all applicable U.S. export laws and regulations.

 

What will you do?

Your day to day: 

  • Expert Individual Contributor and/or Supervisor.  
  • Leads technical teams in designing products, processes, components or portions of a functional system as part of a broader engineering solution including creating layouts and detailing mechanisms, structures, and parts for a major/more complex product component, portion of a functional system/manufacturing operation, or technically advanced prototype.  
  • Has extensive engineering knowledge and is recognized as a subject matter expert in one or more engineering or manufacturing specialties.  
  • Capable in leading engineering efforts on a project at the discipline level.  
  • Researches ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, strength-weight efficiency, etc. and may prepare cost studies for assigned systems, structures and components.  
  • Work is highly independent and he/she has demonstrated capability of not only mentoring engineers, but also the capability of effectively leading teams of engineers in the execution of complex tasks.  
  • Responsibilities typically include: 
    • setting day-to-day operational objectives for individuals or teams,  
    • ensuring that policies, practices and procedures are understood and followed. 
    • Proactively drives Continuous improvement and Recommends alterations to development and design to improve quality of products, processes, and/or procedures, and contributes to development of new methods and processes, as well as their introduction and to change management.  
    • Leads specific aspects of group-level technical training.  
    • Leverages thorough knowledge of Westinghouse products and solutions as a differentiator to positively impact customer relationships.  
    • Aids in the development of the long-term department technical strategy  

 

What will you bring?

Who you are: 

  • Licensed P.Eng. member of Professional Engineers Ontario with a degree in either: Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, Mechatronics, Nuclear Engineering or Applied Science) 
  • Minimum 12+ years of relevant experience. 
  • Extensive experience in conceptual design development, design reviews and engineering change control processes.  
  • Demonstrated experience in the substantiation of custom, first of a kind design within the scope of your practice. 
  • Experience working within computer aided design and analysis tools (for design roles only) 
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing techniques, welding procedures or specifications and associated inspection techniques.  
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, experience working effectively in a team environment. 
  • Application of relevant codes and standards applicable to the design of nuclear components and/or systems including specialized tooling and remote handling equipment 
  • Experience interfacing with customer representatives and providing oversight of vendors.
