About the Opportunity

 

Westinghouse Electric Canada is a leading supplier of custom equipment, process systems and engineering consultant services for the Nuclear industry in Canada.  The successful candidate will join an innovative team that supports Westinghouse’s mission to provide clean energy solutions.

 

It is a bona fide job requirement to be eligible and authorized to travel to the U.S. on Westinghouse business, and such travel is subject to the rules and regulations of the U.S. Department of Energy, as well as compliance with all applicable U.S. export laws and regulations.

 

What will you do?

Your day to day: 

  • Mentor and help in the development of less senior oversight personnel with the execution of verification activities, supplier oversight, and resolution of supplier quality issues.
  • Managing cross disciplined teams in the execution of supplier oversight activities to verify Westinghouse suppliers have implemented a Quality Assurance Program commensurate with the items/services being provided.
  • Develop and implement supplier surveillance and oversight plans for complex and first of a kind procurement to ensure compliance with quality and technical standards.
  • Lead cross functional teams in the resolution of complex supplier quality issues which adversely impact product quality.
  • Perform verification and acceptance activities to confirm items and/or services being provided by suppliers conform to Westinghouse purchase order requirements.
  • Lead, co-ordinate and integrate complex projects which encompass multi-functional areas. Monitor progress and direct teams to successfully achieve established quality objectives within budgetary and schedule constraints.
  • Generate robust certification documents, which identify the specific procurement requirements met by the purchased material or equipment, such as codes, standards, and other specifications imposed by Westinghouse Customers, for major equipment and components.
  • Lead and/or participate in assessments and or QSL maintenance of the global supply base to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, codes and standards.
  • Evaluate supplier quality plans, procedures, and processes to verify compliance to quality and technical requirements defined by Westinghouse Engineering
  • Perform reviews of procurement documents to verify technical and quality requirements have been correctly translated from Westinghouse design documents and Customer contracts
  • Follow-up on supplier corrective action, evaluate responses and ensure objective evidence substantiates adequate closure.
  • Apply advanced quality control techniques and statistical methods for collection of deficiency information to identify failure causes and trends, rate performance and measure effectiveness of supplier QA programs, and internal processes.
  • Provide input to business development, supply chain, and other departments throughout Westinghouse concerning supplier qualification and development
  • Write detailed segments of QA plans/programs according to current U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Westinghouse and customer QA standards for nuclear and non nuclear facilities.  Implement policies on scope and retention requirements of quality assurance documentation.
  • Act as the primary Supplier Quality interface for the review of bid specifications, licensing write ups, proposals, purchase order requisitions, supplier submittals, and other documentation to verify compliance with technical QA requirements for nuclear and non-nuclear components.  Identify deviations which could create safety hazards or malfunctions and return associated documentation to design engineering or higher-level QA personnel with recommended solutions
  • Investigate and report on compliance with technical specifications and verify accuracy of procedures, tests and records.  Review inspection and non-destructive test procedures to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications.  Perform precision measurements, physical or electrical tests on complex materials, components and systems.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement Business Unit Quality policies and systems in accordance with customer requirements, applicable standards, and regulations.

Education & Professional Certifications:

 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree, technical area or equivalent is required OR equivalent experience combined with qualifications mentioned below
  • Achievement of lead auditor qualifications (ANSI 45.2.23/NQA-1) is preferred
  • Working knowledge and application with US NRC Regulations and European Standards such as 10CFR50 Appendix B and 10CFR21; and national consensus standards of quality assurance, such as, ASME B&PV Code, ISO, ANSI ASME NQA-1, N299, N285, ISO 9001, ANSI N45.2 and the daughter standards, IEEE Standards.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing techniques and applicable practices.

 

Skills and Competencies:

  • A minimum of 4 years of supplier oversight and or assessment experience is preferred.
  • Experience in an engineering, procurement and operations from the nuclear industry is preferred.
  • Capability of integrating their quality / technical knowledge with business acumen to influence and gain alignment with outside organizations.
  • Apply analytical techniques to identify deviations, provide trend data, and suggest recommended solutions to high significance and complex quality issues. 
  • Advanced problem-solving skills and ability to develop creative solutions to mitigate risk.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, including the ability to communicate technical requirements and regulatory compliance information across language barriers.
  • Capability to clearly and concisely explain QA policies and procedures to internal personnel and external customers, subcontractors, suppliers and licensees relative to Westinghouse quality related products and services.
  • Ability to gain cooperation and build relationships across organizational boundaries.
  • Presentation skills are required to provide information to influence desired outcome.
  • Ability to create knowledge transfer and retention strategies for the development of future resources.
  • Manages emotions in challenging situations and owns decisions and mistakes.
  • Ability to recognizes and take advantage of opportunities to meet immediate business needs in new, inventive ways.

  • Ability to travel internationally for periods of up to three weeks. Position requires 50-75% travel.
